There's a really big tech mall known as "Guanghua Digital Plaza". Get off at Zhongxiao Xinsheng MRT station and you can check it out. It's something like 8 floors of computer hardware sellers, there's also another building for consumer electronics thats also quite large.
We got a ride from Taipei via the west coast through Hualien then onwards to Pingtung, the rail to Kaohsuing and train back up from Kaohsuing to Taipei. Not that bad; alot of chinese do have a very basic command of english. I'd definitely go back given half a chance and Taroko Gorge and Sun-Moon Lake are places highly recommended to hit up.
Although i will say i remember liuhe night market wasn't that special, nothing like the big one in taichung so i'd imagine ruifeng night market is better. We will be in Taipei next month staying 5 nights then 4 Kaohsiung, from what I understand there is no tipping or bargaining required anywhere and best to take mostly local cash as credit cards are not widely used?. Will get an easy card on arrival and seperate tickets for HSR.
Yes, Taichung city offers free bus services within a 10km radius. However, services can be infrequent and time-consuming. Furthermore, many tourist attractions lie outside of Taichung city, towards the inner/central part of Taiwan, which is definitely more than 10km away. Loved the scenery, especially at Sun Moon Lake and Taroko Gorge, fabulous hotels too. This tour covers the highlights and the best that Taiwan has to offer. The hotels provided were all 5-star and resort hotels had either an onsen or a hot tub in the room.
Tamshui/Danshuei is a pretty easy day trip using the MRT from Taipei and I recommend a walk along the riverfront as well as a visit to the restaurants on Old Street — the food is cooked using fresh ingredients. There are also a couple of old forts that are worth visiting as tourist attractions. You could also take a boat ride to get a different perspective of the city from the riverfront to Fisherman's Wharf. I believe the boat operators take the easy card but when I was there they preferred if you bought a ticket. My sister's family took this trip in 2019, and provided their recommendation to us. This is a great trip for 1st time visitors to Taiwan - saving time for planning and enjoying the highlight within 5 days short trip.
