Tips for a Successful Climb on Mount Kilimanjaro

For me I was very comfortable in trekking pants everyday and combined it with thermal underpants on summit night. If they are unwilling to do that, then, if it’s important to you, ask if you can get an idea of your fellow climbers’ approximate ages, their gender and nationality? And if you have specific requirements when it comes to your fellow companions then ask if they have a certain trek that will be more suitable for you. We consider all of the routes except the Arrow Point route to be relatively safe if walked sensibly. We do not offer climbs on the Arrow Point route as the risk of falling rock is unmanageable .
During these months, climbing Kilimanjaro is at its peak in terms of favorable weather conditions. Clear skies and relatively warm temperatures during the day, especially at lower altitudes, make this period ideal for climbers. However, it is essential to note that due to the favorable weather, this period witnessed higher footfall, resulting in more crowded routes. As altitude sickness is a potential risk when climbing Kilimanjaro, it is advisable to incorporate altitude training into your physical preparation. Horombo hut is similar to Mandara hut only that Horombo has a larger capacity with the ability to accommodate about 120 climbers at a go. They share the same A-shaped design but the Mandara hut is more lively with a huge turnout of climbers, guides, and porters giving it a more adventurous and exciting feel. Trail conditions, weather and the group's level of fitness can affect hiking times. Entering Kili's alpine desert zone, we reach Lava Tower Camp (15,200') for an extra day of acclimatization before the summit push. Set at the foot of Kibo Peak, this camp offers wonderful views over the Shira Plateau.
We advise a minimum of two months of physical preparation; if you are already an experienced hiker, we advise less preparation. The optimum workout consists of four to six-hour day treks with mild elevation changes with a 20-pound pack. Focus on extensive workouts at a slow pace because endurance is crucial.

The last activity here, dated to 150,000–200,000 years ago, created the current Kibo summit crater. They’re linked by a big saddle of Mars-like landscapes where you’ll camp on the first day on certain routes up Mount Kilimanjaro. Climbing to an altitude of nearly 6,000 meters is no picnic but can be accomplished by most hikers with the assistance of a guide that knows the terrain and local environment. Mount Kilimanjaro, located in Tanzania, is the highest peak in Africa and a remarkable example of a volcano-turned freestanding mountain. Its formation began millions of years ago with volcanic activity that spewed lava and ash, gradually building up layers over time. Oh, we are doing the Northern Circuit, so a day time summit though hopefully followed by a night in the crater, if our bodies have cooperated with the altitude. It looks like it is a waterproof jacket first and foremost, but does have a fleeced inner layer, I assume you have that layer in your jacket. I suspect it doesn’t provide the greatest insulation and therefore might not be the warmest choice for Kili, but if you layer up well you should be okay. As for your legs, fleeced trekking trousers with a thermal base layer is sufficient for Kilimanjaro. The desire to stand at the very top of Africa draws something like 50,000 trekkers to Tanzania to climb Mount Kilimanjaro every year. But that’s actually only a fraction of the total number of people who come to the beautiful country of Tanzania.
